- Substitution of Chemicals. For the production of bellows, Belman needs to use a range of chemical substances. The EU’s chemicals legislation REACH now states that some chemicals are now prohibited from use. In addition, Belman has a list of substances in use, some of which are undesirable. Though, it is still legally permitted to use all substances on this list, some of these substances may be considered harmful. Therefore, Belman has chosen to phase out or try to phase out those which are potentially the most harmful to health. Belman’s target is that at least 2 chemicals per year should be substituted. This will be achieved through the evaluation of the chemicals and their effects.
