REPEAT CLIENT ORDERS
100 FLEXIBLE BELLOWS
FOR DATA CENTER
WITH FAST DELIVERY

For a data center construction project in Europe, Belman designed and manufactured 100 Flexible Bellows with flanges and telescopic inner sleeves. The repeat client was highly satisfied with the product quality, short lead time and on-time delivery of a previous order and therefore turned to Belman and its local partner for additional Expansion Joints.
All 100 Expansion Joints were produced in just two weeks, meeting the client’s request for a short delivery time, as timely delivery was critical to keeping the data center construction project on schedule.
CLIENT ISSUE
Additional Axial Expansion Joints for a data center
For the next phase of a data center construction project, the client required additional Axial Expansion Joints for the water piping systems. Earlier in the project, the client had ordered a smaller quantity of Axial Flexible Bellows from Belman and our local partner.
Highly satisfied with the product quality, collaboration and on-time delivery of the previous order, the repeat client turned to Belman and its local partner once again. The new order required 100 additional Axial Expansion Joints within a very short delivery time to keep the data center construction project on schedule.
BELMAN SOLUTION
Axial Expansion Joints with telescopic inner sleeve
According to the client’s specifications, Belman designed and manufactured a total of 100 customised Axial Expansion Joints for installation at different locations in the data center’s water piping systems.
The Expansion Joints were manufactured in two designs:
- 50 pcs. Axial Expansion Joints in dimension DN 150
- 50 pcs. Axial Expansion Joints in dimension DN 125
All 100 Expansion Joints were designed to accommodate +/-25 mm axial movement and were entirely made from stainless steel with the Bellows being manufactured from 1.4541 (AISI 321), while the flanges were made from 1.4307 (AISI 304L). To protect the Bellows, all Expansion Joints were equipped with inner sleeves having a telescopic design. The inner sleeves were made from 1.4404 (AISI 316L) and 1.4307 (AISI 304L), respectively
What are telescopic inner sleeves and how do they work?
The Flexible Bellows were equipped with telescopic inner sleeves, at the client’s request. Telescopic inner sleeves, also known as two-way inner sleeves, are specially designed internal liners used in Expansion Joints to protect the Bellows.
Unlike conventional inner sleeves, a telescopic design consists of two overlapping sleeves that slide within each other as the Expansion Joint absorbs axial movements (expands or contracts). This design is particularly useful in Expansion Joints with large axial movements, where conventional inner sleeves may not provide sufficient protection or overlap throughout the entire movement range.
To ensure reliable operation, the telescopic inner sleeves must be designed with appropriate clearances and sufficient overlaps to prevent interference during expansion and compression
Why use inner sleeves?
Expansion Joints are introduced to a piping system as the flexible element, and to achieve this flexibility, they are made of a material thickness that is considerably less than the rest of the components. This, however, results in making the Expansion Joint vulnerable in many areas, which is why for certain applications, it is necessary to mount a protective inner sleeve. Like inner sleeves in general, the telescopic design provides several benefits:
- Ensures the integrity of the Expansion Joint.
- Protects the Bellows and thereby prolongs their service life.
- Allowing movement accommodation such as axial expansion and compression while maintaining internal coverage.
- Improves flow conditions by providing a smoother flow path and helping to reduce turbulence and pressure losses
100 pcs. Flexible Bellows produced in just two weeks
To meet the client’s demanding project schedule, Belman manufactured all 100 customised Axial Expansion Joints in just two weeks.
Short lead times and reliable delivery were crucial for the client, as the Expansion Joints were required for the next phase of the data center construction project. Any delay in the availability of these components could affect piping installation and subsequent construction activities.
With its flexible manufacturing capabilities and experience in handling time-critical orders, Belman met the client’s requested production schedule, helping to keep the data center project on track.
Why is timely delivery important for data centers?
Timely delivery is particularly important for data center projects, as the rapidly growing demand for data processing capacity puts pressure on operators to complete construction and commission new facilities as quickly as possible. Delays in critical components, such as Expansion Joints, can affect installation schedules, postpone commissioning and result in significant additional costs. Reliable delivery is therefore essential to keeping projects on schedule and bringing new data center capacity online without unnecessary delays.
