To seal off a jacketed vessel in a chemical plant in Northern Europe, Belman designed and manufactured 3 pcs specially designed Wall Penetration Seals made completely from Incoloy 825.

 

CLIENT ISSUE
The chemical plant was looking for some Wall Penetration Seals as replacement of some old seals, which have reached the end of their service life. The client was happy with the existing solution and therefore was looking for a supplier able to design and manufacture some new Wall Penetration Seals in the same material and according to their drawings. The Client turned to Belman, as we are renowned for our ability to produce unique customised solutions.

 

BELMAN SOLUTION

Wall Penetration Seals made completely from Incoloy 825

To meet the client request, Belman expertly designed and manufactured the Wall Pentration Seals as per the specifications forwarded by the client. In this way the client was ensured a solution ensuring proven seal of the jacketed vessel – inner part with the outer part. The Incoloy 825 Bellow with special Incoloy 825 flanges is placed over the nozzle. The Bellow is to absorb axial movement and lateral movements in combination. The special shape of the flanges in the end of the Wall Penetration Seal is due to the unit allowing axial movement of the penetrating pipe. The penetrating pipe is attached to the wall penetration seal (top hat) by use of flanges in this case. Attachment by welding is also possible.

 

Completely made from Incoloy 825

In the chemical industry, a jacketed vessel is a container that is designed for controlling the temperature of its contents, by using a cooling or heating jacket around the vessel through which a cooling or heating fluid is circulated. As the media in the chemical industry is very often acidic/abrasive, the material of the Wall Penetration Seals is required to be of higher alloy. And this is the reason why the client requested the Wall Penetration Seals to be made completely from Incoloy 825. This material is a copper-chrome nickel alloy that exhibits excellent corrosion resistance to the most aggressive acids. Due to its content of nickel in conjunction with molybdenum and chromium, the Incoloy 825 offers excellent resistance to reducing environments, such as those containing sulphuric and phosphoric acids. It supports resistance to local corrosion like crevice and pitting and offers resistance to a variety of oxidizing substances such as nitric acid, nitrates and oxidizing salt. The resistance of Incoloy 825 makes it the preferred choice for various applications such as the chemical industry.

 

Full traceability and documentation

As per client requirement the Wall Penetration Seals has full traceability and has undergone extensive testing such as the following NDT tests; tightness test, pressure test at 15 barg, visual test, penetrant test as well as radiographic test.
